Bold & Flavorful Taco Seasoning
Two words: Taco Tuesday.
There’s a lot to love about tacos. They’re versatile and can be paired with just about anything. But where did tacos come from? And how did we fall in love with this iconic comfort food?
Who Invented Tacos?
It is believed that tacos originated from ancient Mexico—long before the Spanish arrived in the 16th century. However, the taco as we know it looked a lot different during its ancient beginnings. Instead of lettuce, cheese, sour cream, and guac, ancient Mexicans filled flat corn tortillas with fish and other animal organs.
The word “taco” is a bit newer. Mexican miners coined this term in the 18th century after the word “taquito,” which resembled the taquito-shaped covering of gunpowder. This began the humble start of the street taco: a portable food that became popular among working-class Mexicans.
Today, tacos are a worldwide staple for breakfast, lunch, and dinner thanks to our ready-to-sprinkle taco seasoning range.
What Should I Put in Tacos?
It doesn’t matter if it’s Tuesday or Thursday—tacos are the perfect meal to serve, regardless of the day or occasion. Some of the most popular taco toppings include:
- Ground Beef or Fish
- Guacamole
- Refried Beans & Rice
- Lettuce & Tomatoes
- Pico De Gallo
- Salsa & Hot Sauce
- Sour Cream
- Cheese
And of course, don’t forget to spice up your meat with the right taco seasoning!
WHAT IS IN TACO SEASONING?
Taco seasoning generally consists of a blend of various spices and herbs. While the exact ingredients of this Mexican seasoning may vary, some common ingredients include:
- Chili powder
- Paprika
- Garlic powder
- Cumin
- Oregano
- Salt
- Black Pepper
- Cayenne pepper
